When Does the 14-Working-Day Period Begin?
The guarantee does not begin when:
- The application is first created
- The applicant starts or completes the form
- Identity documents are checked
- The application is reviewed by your organisation
- The application is submitted to Faster DBS
The 14-working-day period only begins once the application has been sent to the Disclosure and Barring Service and the DBS confirms that it has received it.
This is important because an application cannot begin progressing through the DBS checking stages until it has been accepted into the DBS system. Any time spent completing the application, verifying identity or waiting for approval before submission is not included in the guarantee period.
What Is Stage 5 of a DBS Check?
Stage 5 means that the DBS has completed the relevant checks and the certificate has been sent for printing.
For an Enhanced DBS check, the application may need to pass through several stages, including searches of DBS-held records and, where applicable, checks by local police forces. Once it reaches Stage 5, these checks are complete and the DBS is preparing the physical certificate.
The certificate must then be printed and posted by the DBS, so reaching Stage 5 does not mean it has already arrived. Printing and postal delivery times are outside Faster DBS’s control.
What Will Be Refunded?
If an eligible application does not reach Stage 5 within the stated 14-working-day period, you can request a refund of the Faster DBS administration fee.
The fee charged by the Disclosure and Barring Service is not refundable because it covers the checks undertaken by the DBS and, where applicable, local police forces.
Our guarantee provides reassurance that, while no provider can control every stage of the DBS process, you will not pay our administration fee if your eligible application does not reach Stage 5 within the guaranteed period.
